Building Back - The Aftermath of Helene
Just two weeks before Hurricane Helene hit, we became a 501C3…Then the storm came and didn’t just tear through the land, it tore through lives, businesses, and the fragile stability of our mountain home…
Over 250 thousand dollars worth of erosion damage compromised our bridge (our only way onto the property) our driveway, and our main paddock…
We lost all our hay...the horses’ main food source…and stared at devastated land and an uncertain future…
Even as we mourned dear friends claimed by the storm, stress, suicide, and old age...and said goodbye to Arnie...our loyal dog of 15 and a half years...and Xena, our sweet young cat…We didn't give up...Instead, we leaned in...We opened our gates and became a beacon of hope for our neighbors and the greater Asheville community…
We offered hot meals, showers, laundry, and the quiet power of horses to a battered community that went fifty-four days without water…
We worked with World Central Kitchen and the Civilian Disaster Response Organization to feed hard-hit neighborhoods and reach farmers cut off by over a million fallen trees…
Living in a disaster zone for a year changes you…it tests the edges of your endurance…
We’ve since shifted from emergency relief to a mission of healing.
Please donate to be a part of this story.
Your donation will bring healing in the following ways:
🐴 Reading with Rescues children's program
🐴 Yoga and Sound Baths with the calming presence of Horses
🐴 Continued restoration and expansion of horse pastures
🐴 And beyond...
The storm may have passed, but the financial and emotional toll remains…
If you’ve donated before…thank you…You’ve helped keep us going through the hardest year we’ve ever known…If you’re new to our story, we invite you to be part of it now…This fundraiser isn’t just about rebuilding a bridge or a paddock, it’s about ensuring this sanctuary remains a place of refuge and renewal for every soul who walks through our gates…
With your help, we can keep leaning in…showing that Appalachian strength isn’t just a slogan…it’s our commitment to home…
