Horses rehabilitated and given a forever home

A sanctuary where more horses—and people—can find space to thrive. We plan to expand our land, build new access roads and trails, and create open, welcoming areas for rescued horses. Alongside this, we envision unique guest experiences—like camping, yurts, or tiny homes—that allow visitors to unplug, reconnect with the land, and engage deeply with our programs.

Volunteer - desperately seeking more. Hehehehehe 🤭

The Missed Path Sanctuary is a small, grassroots equine rescue and healing space based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We give second chances to horses in need—and to people seeking reconnection, reflection, and rooted presence in the natural world.

We are on a mission to create a sanctuary for horses and humans alike—offering rescue, rehabilitation, and relational experiences that foster healing, gentleness, and genuine connection. We rescue and rehabilitate horses who’ve faced neglect, abandonment, or hardship. But our work doesn’t end with the animals: we also hold space for people to experience the quiet power of being with horses in an environment of mutual respect. Our interactions are grounded, non-performative, and deeply relational—often one-on-one or in very small groups.

Mike Cooper and Marc DiFrancia started The Missed Path Sanctuary in 2022 as a response to both personal transformation and a desire to contribute something meaningful to their Western North Carolina community. Mike is also a professional voiceover artist with a background in broadcasting and storytelling; Marc brings deep experience in hands-on animal care and a commitment to gentle stewardship.
